Adagio Teas has moved its operations to a new 80,000 square foot warehouse in East Rutherford and is transforming its business with AI while adding new employees. The company continues to grow its eponymous tea business, while scaling the new categories of coffee (Lardera), spices (Selefina), and honey (Apille).
Technology had always played a large part in the company’s operations, with artificial intelligence now woven into Adagio’s production, marketing, and customer service functions. AI is making decisions on the products that customers see, the ads they’re served, as well as responding to their queries. Sales have grown as a result.
However, these advancements don’t come at the expense of labor. Instead, they strengthen the company’s long-standing commitment to its employees and the community. Adagio was born in Fair Lawn in 1999 and had operated in the neighboring towns of Clifton, Garfield, and Elmwood Park. Its recent move to East Rutherford is a continuation of the company’s investment in local facilities and workforce expansion.
Next year, Adagio Teas is looking to hire new staff to operate its new coffee roasting and packaging lines, and is adding new packaging equipment to support the growth of its spice and honey products. Equipment to extract and concentrate tea and coffee is also being purchased to support the company’s foray into liquid concentrates with a Presto line of products.
“AI helps grow the business and expand our headcount,” says Michael Cramer, the company’s CEO. “It fuels our growth, so we invest in both technology and people, supporting many who’ve been with us for years, and in some cases decades.”
Adagio Teas continues to affirm its dedication to craftsmanship, innovation, and the local economy—ensuring that its teas, coffees, spices, and honey continue to enrich the lives of its customers and employees.
